Korea: Busan Day 2 [Yonggungsa Temple+ Haeundae Beach + Jagalchi Mkt]

Finally blogging about my last few days in Korea, which means it's my last post for Summer in Korea 2013 here! I know I have dragged way too long. but there were a total of 15 drafts + 2 vlogs for this Korea trip here & usually I will take about 2-3 weeks interval before posting th nxt post. Sorry to keep you all waiting!

On th second day of Busan, we decided to head over to Haedong Yonggungsa Temple. Some facts about it...

Haedong Yonggungsa Temple is situated on the coast of the north-eastern portion of Busan. This superb find of a tourist spot and temple offers visitors the rare find of a temple along the shore line. Most temples in Korea are located in the mountains. Haedong Yonggungsa Temple was first built in 1376 by the great Buddhist teacher known as Naong during the Goryeo Dynasty. Haesu Gwaneum Daebul (Seawater Great Goddess Buddha), Daeungjeon Main Sanctuary, Yongwangdang Shrine, Gulbeop Buddhist Sanctum (enclosed in a cave), and a three-story pagoda with four lions can all be seen looking out over the ocean.

The main sanctuary of the temple was reconstructed in 1970 with careful attention paid to the colors that were traditionally used in such structures. On the right-hand side, inside the a cave, is a uniquely designed Buddhist sanctum, while situated just in front of the main sanctuary is a three-story pagoda with four lions. The four lions are symbolizing joy, anger, sadness, and happiness. Other special sites at the temple are the 108 stairs and stone lanterns lining the rocky landscape. After going down the 108 steps, one will be delighted with the beauty of the temple. Midway down the 108 steps one can stop and enjoy the calming sounds of the waves, and view the majestic sunrise.

Many people often come to this spot on New Year's Day to make a wish for the new year as they watch the sun come up. April is an especially beautiful time of year with cherry blossoms in full bloom. The birth of Buddha is also celebrated in April (following the lunar calendar) and offers a spectacular night view as the temple area is aglow with electrically lit lanterns.

As usual, we took th subway to Haeundae Station (Subway line 2) Exit 7 & we walked over to th busstop opposite it & took bus 181 & alighted at th temple stop & walked a 10 mins route in. Usually you will see many tourists alighting too, becos it's a v famous temple & also one of th main tourist attractions that you must go whn you are in Busan!

Upon reaching you will see th sign! There is actually a road of stalls inside like a flea market selling all sorts of things & souvenirs too! We were thn greeted by lots of statues of th 12 zodiac!

Really love th scenery so we ended up taking lots of photos hahaha. Headed for lunch at some nearby market near Haeundae Station becos I was hungry... Randomly settled at a korean restaurant for a simple lunch becos my cousin wasn't hungry & I'm only th one eating.

Headed to Haeundae Beach after that!! One of th most famous beach in Busan & we were amazed by th crowd! Didn't bring our bikini & we ended up gng back to th hostel to get it before coming back agn. Same thing, we took th subway to Haeundae Station (Line 2) Exit 5 & walked about 5-10 mins to th beach.

There was an event that day & hence it explains th HUGE crowd. We were damn excited to go into th waters & enjoy th fun!! Put all our stuffs into th locker & off we go!

Hiding under th blue tent enjoying just like th other Koreans. We have to pay for sitting under a tent though where you will be given a blue picnic mat & you can put your stuffs there. We also bought crackers to enjoy. There will be some elderly gng around w pizza/fried chicken & you can just buy frm them if you bought nth here!

Off we go to th beach to play w th water! Unlike in Singapore, their water is so clean & their waves are HUGE. That explains why everyone book a float to go play w th waves! Lucky us got a free float frm a few guys who didn't want to play anymore hahaha they are so nice! Had such a fun time!!! They have a lot of lifeguards around & I felt so much safer while playing in th huge tides.

We even have airbrush tattoos on our bodies becos of th event held there!! Had rly so much fun playing w th water that we came back all drenched & wet & tired. Rested awhile & ate what we bought before heading off.

Decided to settle at Jagalchi Fish market for dinner becos we know that it's a very well known place for its fresh seafood! It's also th largest market in Busan! YUMMMM

Took th subway to Jagalchi Station (Line 1) Exit 10 & we have to walk about 10 mins. In th meanwhile, we were greeted w lots of long 'dirty and wet' alleys with lots of road side stalls & there were so much varieties of seafood everywhere.

After walking for so long outdoor, we decided to go indoors for dinner! It was still market w a lot of stalls on th first floor where we get to choose our own seafood to bring upstairs to cook!

Was rly amazed w all th sea creatures there becos I didn't even know half of them existed in my life so far. So ended up, we chose th raw octopus, sea urchins & abalones up for dinner!

Th ahjumas gave us this pot of hot fish soup which she said was "service" to us. It was rly yummy though! Rly an eye opening experience & I love it!!

Went back Seoul that night via KTX train before heading back to Singapore th nxt day. Missing Korea too much alr~

Finally ended on all my main posts in Korea, th rest are just here and thr abit a day so I'm not gng to blog about it.

Damage spent in this whole trip for 35 days: About $5k per person.

Hope you all enjoyed my Summer 2013 journey! Hongkong trip 2014 next! Will start blogging my very first post abt it nxt mth :)
